Have to pull door to lock deadbolt4/15/2024 GREEN RECTANGLE - I'm assuming it's some kind of 'vertical up' mount that stops the bar at the top here from sliding to pull the pins out, but I can't see where it would actually 'slot' in to to prevent the sliding? Is the mechanism missing something? There seems to be a whole lot of extra mounting points throughout the door. I've put some text & labels on the image to help with identification.26231 This shows the mounting plate, and the mechanism that the bolt will lock. I don't want anything fancy - just want it to function :) It doesn't matter to me if it's neat etc. which part of the mechanism does it 'slot' in to to prevent opening the door?).Īlso, I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a rough estimate on how much something like this would cost (second-hand, if they come up), or new if I have to. The main thing I'm having trouble figuring out is which way to mount the bolt (i.e. I was hoping some kind soul out there might be able to give me some advice on the kind of parts I need to buy, and a rough idea of how to fit it. bolts, mounting plate for the combo lock, the mechanism that gets held by the bolt to prevent opening etc). As you will see in the pics, the remainder of all the locking mechanisms are there (e.g. I got it for $100, as it has had the combination lock removed for whatever reason. So, I picked up a fantastic 350 kilogram safe (built like a brick ****house as we say here in Aus!). I've been searching for days, but thing I need some guidance slightly more 'tailored' to my particular situation. Hi everyone, this is my first post on the DIY forums here, and I sincerely hope someone will be able to assist. Whether you restore this lock or replace it, make sure the bolt is able to smoothly project it's full throw into the door frame till it "clicks".this allows it to "deadlock" so it can't be jimmied open with external force, such as a caseknife. (WD-40 is a good penetrant, but not for long-term lubrication follow it up with several drops of machine or motor oil-the WD-40 will wick the oil where it needs to go.) Try a penetrating lube, to see if smooth operation is restored. b) While graphite is ideal for a key cylinder lubricant, for the bolt assembly, it might not penetrate into the moving parts as necessary. If the bolt doesn't work smoothly with the door open: a) could it simply be wearing out? how old is it? It appears to be a Kwikset brand (or clone) and they are inexpensively made, & don't last forever. I assume you have tried to operate the bolt (with the screwdriver as shown) with the door open as well as closed.if it works well with door open, but not closed, the bolt is binding in the strike hole & there may be numerous reasons for this. I should also note I'm in Colorado where it has been in the negative to single temperatures the last couple days in a row. I attempted to push the deadbolt back while it is in the unlocked position but either my needlenose pliers couldn't get a good grip on it or it is stuck, even after I hit it with some graphite lubricant. I assume it is hitting the back of frame and has nowhere else to move.ĭoes anyone know what is happening and how to fix it? It looks to me like I've somehow reset the fully unlocked position or something. When I attempt to lock the deadbolt it will only move this far to the left. This is the deadbolt still in the door frame even though it is fully in the unlocked position This is a photo of the lock fully unlocked with a screwdriver I've attached some pics to show what's going on. I used a screwdriver to attempt to fully retract the deadbolt but in the unlocked state around 20% of the deadbolt is still in the door making it impossible to open. I took the face off of the lock to investigate but still cannot figure out what is happening. When I went to unlock the the lock I found that the deadbolt was not fully retracting to allow me to open the door. Last night when I went to lock my front door I heard a strange clicking noise when I put the lock firmly in place.
